![]() Genus Gorilla – Geoffroy, 1852 – two species The species and subspecies listed here are the ones upon which most scientists agree. Primatologists continue to explore the relationships between various gorilla populations. The separate species and subspecies developed from a single type of gorilla during the Ice Age, when their forest habitats shrank and became isolated from each other. More recently, a third subspecies has been claimed to exist in one of the species. There is now agreement that there are two species, each with two subspecies. Until recently, gorillas were considered to be a single species, with three subspecies: the western lowland gorilla, the eastern lowland gorilla and the mountain gorilla. Phylogeny of superfamily Hominoidea : Fig. Human gene sequences differ only 1.6% on average from the sequences of corresponding gorilla genes, but there is further difference in how many copies each gene has. The closest relatives of gorillas are the other two Homininae genera, chimpanzees and humans, all of them having diverged from a common ancestor about 7 million years ago. The species name was derived from Ancient Greek Γόριλλαι (gorillai) 'tribe of hairy women', as described by Hanno. They called it Troglodytes gorilla, using the then-current name of the chimpanzee genus. The American physician and missionary Thomas Staughton Savage and naturalist Jeffries Wyman first described the western gorilla in 1847 from specimens obtained in Liberia. Skins of gorillai women, brought back by Hanno, are reputed to have been kept at Carthage until Rome destroyed the city 350 years later at the end of the Punic Wars, 146 BC. It is unknown whether what the explorers encountered were what we now call gorillas, another species of ape or monkeys, or humans. Members of the expedition encountered "savage people, the greater part of whom were women, whose bodies were hairy, and whom our interpreters called Gorillae". 500 BC), a Carthaginian explorer on an expedition to the west African coast to the area that later became Sierra Leone. ![]() The word gorilla comes from the history of Hanno the Navigator ( c. However, conservation efforts have been successful in some areas where they live. There are many threats to their survival, such as poaching, habitat destruction, and disease, which threaten the survival of the species. Both species are classified as Critically Endangered by the IUCN all subspecies are classified as Critically Endangered with the exception of the mountain gorilla, which is classified as Endangered. There are thought to be around 316,000 western gorillas in the wild, and 5,000 eastern gorillas. Lowland gorillas live in dense forests and lowland swamps and marshes as low as sea level, with western lowland gorillas living in Central West African countries and eastern lowland gorillas living in the Democratic Republic of the Congo near its border with Rwanda. The mountain gorilla inhabits the Albertine Rift montane cloud forests of the Virunga Volcanoes, ranging in altitude from 2,200 to 4,300 metres (7,200 to 14,100 ft). Although their range covers a small percentage of Sub-Saharan Africa, gorillas cover a wide range of elevations. Gorillas' natural habitats cover tropical or subtropical forest in Sub-Saharan Africa. Gorillas tend to live 35–40 years in the wild. ![]() The Eastern gorilla is distinguished from the Western by darker fur colour and some other minor morphological differences. They tend to live in troops, with the leader being called a silverback. Gorillas are the largest living primates, reaching heights between 1.25 and 1.8 metres, weights between 100 and 270 kg, and arm spans up to 2.6 metres, depending on species and sex. The DNA of gorillas is highly similar to that of humans, from 95 to 99% depending on what is included, and they are the next closest living relatives to humans after chimpanzees and bonobos. ![]() The genus Gorilla is divided into two species: the eastern gorilla and the western gorilla, and either four or five subspecies. Gorillas are herbivorous, predominantly ground-dwelling great apes that inhabit the tropical forests of equatorial Africa. ![]() ![]() ![]() git reset -hard : Moves HEAD to, and resets both the staging area and the working directory.git reset -mixed (default): Moves HEAD to, resets the staging area, but keeps the working directory as is.git reset -soft : Moves HEAD to, keeps the staging area and the working directory as is.In summary, here is a concise description of what each flag does: This command is typically used when you want to completely discard recent commits and changes. ![]() Be careful when using this option, as you will lose all uncommitted changes in your working directory. If you follow our ongoing example, ` git reset -hard B` would completely discard commit C, including both its commit entry and changes to the files. Essentially, it completely discards all commits after the specified commit. ![]() It moves the HEAD pointer, resets the staging area, and the working directory to match the specified commit. The `git reset -hard ` command is the most destructive option. Understand “git reset –mixed” Git Reset -hard This can be useful if you want to re-stage certain changes or break them up into multiple commits. In other words, they’ll appear as untracked changes. Returning to our previous example, if you execute ` git reset -mixed B` after having made commit C, you will find yourself with the changes introduced in commit C present in your working directory but not in your staging area. However, it also resets the staging area to match this commit, but leaves the working directory unchanged. It moves the HEAD pointer to the specified commit, just like -soft. The `git reset -mixed ` is the default option for git reset. Understand “git reset –soft” Git Reset -mixed This option is particularly useful if you want to redo the commit message of commit C or squash it into commit B. However, the changes introduced in commit C will be left in your staging area, as if they’re ready to be committed again. Suppose you have the following commit history: This means all changes from the commits after the specified commit will be kept in the staging area, ready to be committed again. When using ` git reset -soft `, Git moves the HEAD pointer to the specified commit, but leaves the staging area and working directory unchanged. But the command can affect your working directory, staging area (also known as the index), and your commit history in different ways depending on whether the -soft, -mixed, or -hard flag is used. It essentially allows you to move the HEAD pointer to a specific commit, thus changing what is considered the “latest” commit in your local repository. ![]() The git reset command is a powerful tool used to undo changes in a Git repository. One such command is git reset, which comes with a few options that can significantly change its behavior: -soft, -mixed, and -hard. Understanding these commands and their subtleties can significantly improve your efficiency and the way you work with a codebase. If you're more of the copy-and-paste type, or just want an in-page preview of what you'll be getting, here it is.Git is one of the most popular Version Control Systems (VCS) currently in use, and it provides a wide range of commands to manage and manipulate the history of your codebase. You can grab a copy of the file to use and tweak as fits you best. If you want to use my reset styles, then feel free! It's all explicitly in the public domain (I have to formally say that or else people ask me about licensing). In other words, this is a starting point, not a self-contained black box of no-touchiness. Fill in your preferred colors for the page, links, and so on. It should be tweaked, edited, extended, and otherwise tuned to match your specific reset baseline. I don't particularly recommend that you just use this in its unaltered state in your own projects. There isn't any default color or background set for the body element, for example. The reset styles given here are intentionally very generic. Reset styles quite often appear in CSS frameworks, and the original "meyerweb reset" found its way into Blueprint, among others. The general reasoning behind this was discussed in a May 2007 post, if you're interested. The goal of a reset stylesheet is to reduce browser inconsistencies in things like default line heights, margins and font sizes of headings, and so on. ![]() ![]() Now the most important step, because you must remember the following wallet generation data with 12 consecutive words: To create a wallet, select "Create a new seed". The tiara can even be taken off its frame and worn as a necklace, as was demonstrated by Rockstar Alice Cooper in 1973 in an iconic photograph with Salvador Dalí. At one point, cabochon turquoise stones were set in the diamonds’ place – the tiara in this version was worn by Rose Movius Palmer, an American artist. ![]() (The tiara is now struck on the reverse with Harry Winston’s maker’s mark beside the setting). He removed the Arcot and Hastings diamonds, recut them and sold them each as solitaire rings. In June 1959, the tiara was bought by Harry Winston at Sotheby’s for £110,000 – a price that broke the world record at the time for a piece of jewellery sold at auction. The original tiara design featured the three impressive diamonds alongside some 1,400 smaller diamonds. They had previously been set in many of the Westminster family’s jewellery pieces before Lacloche was finally asked to incorporate them into the tiara design in 1930. These three diamonds came into the hands of the Duke of Westminster after the deaths of the King and Queen when they were sold to the crown jeweller Rundell, Bridge & Rundell. The tiara was originally created to showcase three exceptional diamonds: the Hastings diamond, gifted to King George III by Nizam Ali Kahn in 1785 via an intermediary, Warren Hastings and the two pear-shaped Arcot diamonds which were originally a gift for Queen Charlotte from the Nawab of Arcot, Azim-Ud Daula. The Duke’s second wife, Anne Sullivan, later wore the tiara to the coronation of Elizabeth II in 1952. It was most notably worn by the 3rd Duke’s wife Loelia Ponsonby, whom Cecil Beaton photographed wearing the tiara. The tiara takes inspiration from the traditional Chinese Fengguan and Kuitou headdresses but infuses it with modern, angular motifs and sleek baguette- and marquise-cut diamonds. However, the rise in Art Deco design saw a return in vogue of the Eastern style and a blending of Chinoiserie motifs and design elements in this new modern aesthetic.Įxemplary of this is the Westminster Halo Tiara. ![]() The trend continued into the next century but fell out of fashion in the 19th century.
